Care for People in Need in Sichuan and Tibet, Used Clothes Makes the Winter Warm

Publication time:2017-09-15

Duringthe three months after our visit to Liangshan, we built a “Charity Canteen” forWuwashe Primary School and offered financial support to 23 students from poorfamilies. Now, children studying at this primary school have new classrooms, anew canteen and new chairs and desks, but these are not enough. Without foodsupplies, a canteen will be useless. Without warm winter clothes, children inbright classrooms with new desks and chairs will also suffer from coldness inwinter. In Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and Garzê Tibetan AutonomousPrefecture, Sichuan Province, there are many families suffering from deficiencyin warm clothes and food. For people living in cities, it’s hard to imagine howit feels to wear ragged light clothes and worn shoes and eat ice-like potatoesin winter. You may find it unbelievable for China to have such poor areastoday. At first, I found it unbelievable as well, but visits to these areasevery year convince me of this sad truth.

As thewinter is approaching, Yi and Tibetan residents in Sichuan are in urgent needof warm winter cloth.  5.12 CharityAssociation will work with partners to organize a used clothing donationactivity to bring warmth to these poor mountainous areas. We may not get themout of such a difficult situation, but we can offer a channel to convey ourloving care for them. Let’s work together to share our love, bring warmth topeople in need, save and cherish what we have and contribute to the realizationof Chinese Dream.

There is a town called Xincheng Town in Zhaojue County, Liangshan Yi AutonomousPrefecture. This town is not far away from the downtown, but it will take anhour to reach the town by climbing mountain from a place without roads. Villagesin the town are inhabited by elderly villagers living alone and many childrenthat lead a really difficult life. With poor transportation system, undevelopedeconomy, residents there mostly live on potato growing. With limited supportfrom government, teaching staff and students at local schools have to work andlearn in a very poor environment, and children have to live on cabbage andpotatoes, and most of their stationery and clothing are donations from thepublic. The town is seeking for donations from the public. Wawushe PrimarySchool in Liangshan, Sichuan Province is located at 3,000 meter above sea level. In winter when the lowest temperature can reach more than 10 degrees Celsiusbelow zero, children have to carry with them a small brazier and some firewood toschool in snowy days.
